Possibly not since the young Dizzy Gillespie was cloning Roy Eldridge's style has one trumpeter sounded as much like another as Jon Faddis, in his formative years, sounded like Dizzy. This Gillespie jam session captured Faddis squarely in the middle of that period. It also found Dizzy in remarkable fettle, showing his prot,g, a thing or two about harmonic ingenuity and intensity of swing. Nonetheless, Faddis was already a seasoned improviser and performed beautifully. Monty Alexander, Ray Brown, and Jimmie Smith were strong in support, with Alexander and Milt Jackson turning in solos the equal of the trumpeters', no mean feat.
