During his ten years in the bay area, saxophonist/composer Mitch Marcus cut a wide and exciting swath through the music scene. He worked with an array of daring, diverse musical ensembles and formed the Mitch Marcus Quintet, voted best jazz band in SF Weekly's 2007 readers poll. Now Marcus, having relocated to his native New York, is ready to introduce his innovative quintet to new audiences with his forthcoming Porto Franco Records CD, Countdown 2 Meltdown. Featuring alto saxophonist and longtime musical partner Sylvain Carton, guitarist Mike Abraham, bassist George Ban-Weiss, and drummer Tomas Fujiwara, the new disc puts MMQ's collaborative brauvura and interplay on full display.
