Disc 1: DVD Disc 2: CD
Much more than mere retrospectives (the double CD Alezane, released in 2004, perfectly fulfils this function), the lavish DVD Jivula and the live album Anita! both cast new light on how Robin works. The five chapters of Jivula provide visual proof of the musician's depth of spirit and breadth of soul. Produced by Sergio Mondelo, Airs de Voyages is a road movie through Andalusia, punctuated by musical sequences wherein Robin gives an honest analysis of his life and key motivations for inventing the unique language he is so well known for. His are humble yet enlightening words that are most eloquently illustrated via the live performances on Scènes, played by trio, quartet or quintet. With the documentary La Danse du Serpent and the filmed concert Jivula, this DVD also puts the spotlight on Gulabi Sapera, a phenomenal Indian Romani (gypsy) dancer of the Kalbeliya (snake charmer) caste. Her natural virtuosity, innate sense of improvisation, bold reinvention of tradition and ability to transform musical language into a physical frenzy explain why these collaborations with Robin have been an inexhaustible source of unbelievable beauty for some 15 years. Rounded out with a musical slide show that features magnificent photos by Louis Vincent, Jivula is a majestic doorway into Titi Robin's ever-expanding universe. |
