Twenty-four of the Trio and Quartet's greatest recordings supposedly re-channeled for "three dimensional sound," although these just sound like very clean transfers of the original mono masters. But aside from the improved listening perspective, it's of little importance as the music carries the day with two dozen excellent examples of small group jazz at its finest. The Goodman Trio and Quartet were groundbreaking groups, both musically and in tearing down racial barriers, and this set of recordings is as good of an introduction (even with the exclusion of "I'm a Ding Dong Daddy," perhaps their wildest moment in the studio) to their genius as any other package out there. Beyond essential. ~ Cub Koda, All Music Guide
