Shortlived legendary band featuring Pat Hawes.
The original personnel of The Dave Carey Jazz Band was as on the first set recordings here, and there were only two changes in the band's total record output heard on these two CDs. The band was well organised and rehearsed with neat head arrangements, introductions and codas, but with plenty of space for solos all round. Vocals were from the piano player, who also did the announcing. The tunes heard on these CDs are a pretty fair indication of the band's repertoire, drawn from many diverse sources, avoiding the more over worked items of the traditional jazz style. These recordings are excellent examples of a very fine British band. - Pat Hawes |
