Led by the inimitable Sir Bob Geldof (and totally overshadowed by his later charity work on the Band Aid and Live Aid projects), the Boomtown Rats were nevertheless an important and notable band who were a real force in the charts and active between 1975 and 1986.
Five of the band's Top 40 singles, including two Number 1's, are included in this rousing performance to a rammed crowd filmed at The Dominion Theatre, London in 1985.
In 1985, the Boomtown Rats had released their sixth album, In The Long Grass, and toured the U.K. in support; by this time, lead singer Bob Geldof had become better known in many circles for his humanitarian work, having spearheaded the recording of the all-star benefit single "Do They Know It's Christmas" near the end of 1984, and a few months later he would help organize Live Aid, the international benefit concert for famine relief. The Boomtown Rats would quietly break up in 1986, and the 1985 British tour would prove to be one of the group's last stands. The Boomtown Rats: On A Night Like This features twelve songs videotaped live during the 1985 tour's stop at London's Dominion Theater, with the band playing a mix of their biggest British hits and selection from In The Long Grass. Songs include "I Don't Like Mondays", "Rat Trap", "Elephant's Graveyard", "Someone's Looking At You" and "Looking After No. 1". ---Mark Deming, All Movie Guide |
