Music and friendship were Schubert's passions. He set such store by both that his work bears witness to a kind of cross-fertilisation - especially evident in his many piano pieces for four hands. Schubert would surely have been glad to include Christian Ivaldi and Jean-Claude Pennetier in his Schubertiads: these two eminent musicians, both teachers at the Paris Conservatory, have been playing these pieces all their lives, and their shared understanding and attentiveness to each other's playing enable them to achieve perfect artistic union. |
