Apart from all the necessary percussion prerequisites, drummer Louis Hayes enjoys a reputation as a dependable anchorman, a tasteful and versatile asset to any band. 'The Candy Man', his second recording for TCB, displays all the virtues a top drummer is able to project, especially in an environment where he has lived and worked for many years.
However, 'The Candy Man' should not be mistaken as a flashy drummer's outing'. The program consists of a number of hard-bop themes, originals, jazz compositions and standards, all of which are well balanced and executed by a tight knit band. |
