Rising young alto saxophone star Jon Gordon's second U.S. release was recorded live during a jazz cruise. Backed by pianist Bill Charlap, bassist Sean Smith and drummer Tim Horner, this engaging musician's confidence on stage comes across in his performances. Particularly impressive are Gordon's intense bop title track and a captivating, spacious take of "'Round Midnight." Gordon also stands proud playing alongside guests Benny Carter on "I Can't Get Started With You" and former teacher Phil Woods on Gordon's turbo-charged blues "The Phoenix." Recommended.
