Jazz
"It's my life. Jazz is my life. I don't know what else there is to say about it" - Chris Connor.
Chris Connor is the definitive cool jazz singer. Her sensuous understated style has much in common with the likes of Julie London, and Anita O¹Day, with whom she has always been closely associated and compared. She is very much the singer the likes of Sade and Tracey Thorn would like to have been.
Chris reached the height of her popularity in the 50s when she delivered her celebrated versions of Billy Strayhorn's 'Lush Life' and George Shearing's 'Lullaby of Broadway'. This instantly made her a major international star along with her big hit 'All About Ronnie', which is included on this album.
These vintage performances are as modern, fresh and vibrant as they were when they were originally recorded over fifty years ago. |
