Jazz
The ESP label is a reliable source for engaging, boundary-pushing jazz, and Norman Howard's BURN BABY BURN is no exception. Atmospheric, propulsive, and shot with flights of improvisatory kinetics, Howard and his ensemble take a page from Ornette Coleman in their breathless flutterings and keening lyricism, but give the sound their own individual stamp. The revolutionary title is not without reason: this is music driven enough to raze cities and overturn ideology. |
