Turk Murphy (tb) Bob Helm (cl & sop sx) Wally Rose (pn) Dick Lammi (bj) Bob Short (cn & tu.)
In the late 1940s, trombonist-bandleader Turk Murphy came up with a description for the kind of music he played: Traditional Jazz. It is a safe bet that Turk would probably not recognize a lot of the music which is mis-labeled "Traditional Jazz" today. However, when the recordings on this CD were made, in 1953, Turk's band was in residence at the Italian Village in San Francisco - playing "The Truth." This was real and righetous Tradition |
