The 1979 edition of Jim Cullum, Jr.'s Happy Jazz Band was one of the finest Dixieland bands around. The cornetist/leader, trombonist Mike Pittsley and clarinetist Allen Vache made for a potent frontline, while pianist John Sheridan, banjoist Howard Elkins, bassist Jack Wyatt and drummer Kevin Hess kept the proceedings continually swinging. For this LP, Cullum's band performs songs associated with Bix Beiderbecke and Louis Armstrong, along with "I've Got a Crush on You" and "Bienville Blues." The music should please trad-jazz fans.
