This is a collection of Stanley Turrentine and Art Blakey sides produced by Swamp Dogg, and issued here on CD for the first time. Recorded in the late '60s and early '70s, these tunes offer sides of the artists in interesting settings. The Jazz Messengers tunes feature the trumpeter Chuck Mangione as a soloist, and the Turrentine sides are far more meat and potatoes and definitely grimier and greasier than the stuff cut for either Blue Note or CTI. Some of these tapes are in rather rough shape, but the music they contain is solid throughout.
