On first glance this duet session between Chet Baker and pianist Paul Bley should not have worked. Bley is primarily interested in freer improvising while Baker loved playing melodies but for this encounter the pianist compromised and laid down a fairly solid foundation for the veteran trumpeter. The results contain some chance-taking moments but sounds more comfortable than one might have expected.
