This edition compiles Dizzy Gillespie’s seminal be-bop studio recordings, made for the small labels Guild and Musicraft. These are mainly small group sessions but there are also recordings by the Dizzy Gillespie big band.
All of these tunes became classics, especially "Things to Come" and Diz's ballad "I Waited For You", which he would use as his theme song on radio shows for many years. These were some of Diz's earliest hits in an extended career which would end with his death in 1993.
The Guild-Musicraft sessions featured: Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Milt Jackson, James Moody, Hank Jones, Ray Brown, and Kenny Clarke, among others. |
