Jazz Fusion
Recorded at Big Time Audio, Dallas, Texas
Joe McBride (piano, vocals, programming), Dave Koz (soprano saxophone), Wayne Delano (soprano & tenor saxophone, flute), Kirk Whalum (soprano & tenor saxophone), Dave Von Blohn (flugelhorn), Larry Carlton (acoustic & electric guitar), Dave Monsey (bass), Martin Walters (programming, bass, guitar), Dennis Durick (drums, percussion)
Keyboardist Joe McBride seems to have had a good time during parts of his Heads Up release, especially when he is trading off with guitarist Larry Carlton, taking acoustic piano solos in a style reminsicent of Ramsey Lewis or overdubbing his voices on the infectious "Everybody Needs Love" and "You've Got a Friend." However, from the jazz standpoint there are many dull melody statements by anonymous-sounding saxophonists (Kirk Whalum, Dave Koz and Wayne Delano), mundane dance music rhythms and other R&Bish vocals by McBride, making this CD of limited interest. ---Scott Yanow, allmusic |
