'Barclay James Harvest - the Ultimate Anthology' looks at Barclay James Harvest's melodic 'underground' sound which has a distinct blend of progressive symphonic and occasionally improvisational styles. With a knack for writing hook-laden songs built on pretty melodies, they harmonized like the Beatles and wrote extended songs with more of a beat than the Moody Blues! This is the best of Barclay James Harvest. The DVD is available in DTS and 5.1 Surround Sound which means that it offers the ultimate in listening quality which can be appreciated by all. It also has a special feature of archive footage from the early years.
Barclay James Harvest was formed in autumn 1966 by art school students John Lees and Stuart Wolstenholme. In 1970 their debut album was recorded and proved to be a hit within the student community. However, their heavy use of mellotron proved none too popular with the critics of the day. In 1971 their follow up album 'Once Again' featured what was to come one of their finest songs 'Mockingbird'. They carried on and released a further 2 successful albums before they gained a contract with Polydor in 1974. Their 4th album 'Everyone is Everyone Else' gained them wide scale recognition. They were probably most popular in Germany and gained a loyal fan base all over the world. |
