Jazz / Modern Creative, Bop
Rhythm Section: Steve Allee (p); Tyrone Wheeler (b); Jonathan Higgins (d)
Intermediate/Advanced. 24 beautiful, well-known standards in keys comfortable for most FEMALE singers. The first class rhythm section plays each song with special sensitivity and with the singer in mind, including intros that help orient the singer to the first melody note. Special stereo separation allows piano playing vocalists to eliminate the piano track and play/sing along with just bass and drums. Book includes lyrics written over the melody notes, piano cues, and chord changes in C (Note: this book does not contain transposed parts for Bb, Eb, or bass clef instruments like our other play-a-longs.).
Jamey Aebersold
Active Decades: '60s, '70s and '80s Genre: Jazz
Despite a lack of notoriety, multi-instrumentalist Jamey Aebersold has compiled a huge recorded legacy since the mid-'60s. Aebersold has recorded on alto sax, bass and piano, and many of his releases have stressed themes, particularly compositions by jazz giants. He might be better known as a teacher, label owner and operator of a mail-order service Double-Time Records. JA Records has been in business since the '70s, with dates focusing on works written by Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker and others, plus sessions highlighting movements, Aebersold's compositions or styles. Aebersold's best, or at least most exciting instrument, is alto, where he demonstrates good facility and technique. His piano and bass playing are not as accomplished, though still competent. He has more than 50 titles on album and disc listed. ---Ron Wynn, All Music Guide |
