The Catbird Seat is a rare session from the short-lived trio of pianist Dwike Mitchell, bassist Willie Ruff, and drummer Charlie Smith. Originally released in 1961 on Atlantic Records, these are straight-ahead jazz interpretations of "So in Love," "Con Alma," "I'll Remember April," "Street of Dreams," "Gypsy in My Soul," and the Mitchell original "The Catbird Seat." Since this version of the trio only recorded one date for Atlantic (the other, After This Message, featured Helcio Milito on drums), collectors will be glad to find this back in print on Collectables. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
