Although a classically trained artist, John was seduced by the New York music scene of the 1960s, which ultimately led him to a place in the band and music history. However, creative differences with fellow band mate Lou Reed in part caused Cale to leave the band and pursue a solo career. Since then, he has composed film scores and produced albums for prominent artists such as Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, and Squeeze.
