The American country rock band The Flying Burrito Brothers was founded in 1968 by Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman in Los Angeles. The band is still regarded today as one of the forefathers of the Americana style, without which bands like the Eagles or Poco would not have existed later. Eagles guitarist Bernie Leadon was himself a member of the Burritos from 1969 to 1971.
The band broke up in 1972, but re-formed two years later with a new line-up. After an extensive tour, the newly formed Burritos recorded the album “Flying Again”, which was released by Columbia in 1975, as well as the highly acclaimed “Airborne” a year later. Skip Battin from the Byrds had joined the Burritos in the meantime, and with the line-up of Gib Gilbeau, “Sneaky” Pete Kleinow, Joel Scott Hill, Skip Battin and ex-Dillards drummer Ed Ponder, they went on a world tour to promote the two Columbia albums live. In the supporting program: the Scottish singer Barbara Dickson (including “January, February” or “Caravan” with Mike Batt).
The Flying Burrito Brothers gave their only concert in Germany on October 4, 1976 in the sold-out Bremen Post-Aula. Radio Bremen was there that evening and recorded the show. The result: another Americana gem from the then very busy and industrious country rockers.
