Charles Kynard's fourth album on Prestige records really brought the funk. Crusaders tenorist Wilton Felder, session bass extraordinaire Carol Kaye and session drummer Paul Humphrey, plus the inimitable Joe Pass on guitar. I've never actually heard Pass in a funk setting before, and it's sort of funny because he seems a bit out of his element at times. Funky grooves punctuated by Kaye's pick-style electric bass dominate the album. It's not quite as great as the previous two albums in my opinion, but it's a gem with a lot of charm. |
